Afterthought of the Day

Never trust anyone with something they shouldn't know.

Ah yes, but the trouble is that so often you don't know they shouldn't know until long after you've trusted them with the something.
If you're lucky, the reason they shouldn't be trusted with what they shouldn't know is because they are self-involved and careless, which means they will totally forget what you trusted them with. Forever!

Well...but if it's something you shouldn't be telling them, then it's something they shouldn't know! That's a good rule of thumb, I find.

Perhaps it should be, "Never trust someone not to repeat something that you yourself can't trust yourself to not repeat something. To. To not repeat something to. Them. To them."

Yeah, it should have been that. But what can we do now?

Never trust yourself not to repeat something to someone who shouldn't know it.

Wait, no. "Never trust someone, you can't be trusted not to repeat something to someone if you can't even repeat it to yourself!"

These pithy slogans are hard to get just right!
