The "Super-Mom" Phenomenon

I have no interest in saying anything about this. If people want me to talk about it, feel free to provide raw material in the form of comments, and I will edit various contributed sentences together into a coherent gem.

At some later point.

What's a super-mom? My mom is/was a super mom, but she didn't have that hyphen. What does the hyphen mean?

And although this in no way could be construed as an insulting remark, in light of your previous post I will say that no, I am not joking. Gimme an answer. Pronto. Immediately, if not sooner, as my super mom says.

You're just trying to get me to write about it!

All I know is, I've heard the term bandied about a lot lately. Like, 3 times in the past 1.5 months. Once on MSN today, once in the paper, once on the local news. I didn't actually read or view any of the stories involved. I don't go in for that fluff stuff! I'm a hard news enthusiast.

I gather that it's some pressure or trend being put on the modern day mom to outdo other modern day moms in the category of "she does it all!" Like, organizing and participating in manifold/multifarious kid-focused activities (sports, plays, recitals, karate, like that). I'm not sure if "maintaining a successful career as well" plays into it or not. Maybe the hyperachieving kids angle supersedes that.

The local news had a little teaser about a feature they were doing on the topic, but I wasn't successfully teased to the point where I watched it.

Honestly, it doesn't seem like a new thing to me.
