Wassails and Yuletidings, Ye All

When Christmastime
shrieks by overhead,
and your Christmas thoughts
close in around you,
repeat to yourself: "it's just once a year"
it's just once a year, when that magical time
comes crashing down
and crushes our souls
into sugarplum pudding.

methinks I've heard this one before.

Why oh why is your soul crushed at Christmastime?

Well, at least it's crushed into a tasty treat.

The closer it gets to Christmas, especially once I'm in the company of family, the more my soul tends to feel like the sugarplums themselves: full and round and shining with crystalline sweetness. I love it! :)
