Thought of the Day, Smiling Wide

There's a big difference between having someone in your life whose presence makes you miserable, and having someone in your life whose absence makes you miserable.

OK, in practical terms, you're miserable either way. So perhaps the difference is largely hypothetical but it is HUGE.

Oh, come on, they're nothing alike! The miserable presence feels like there is no hope of non-misery, like you are just living a futilitarian life, haunted by misery. The absence misery feels pretty terrific, like you can feel the magnetic forces of the absolute opposite of misery constantly teasing any miserableness away from the strong foundational bones of your life. And the promise of eventual non-absence, and consequent non-misery, is quite the sparkling salvation from despair.

I feel you must already agree, given the wide smile.

BLUE! Wow, I haven't seen you on here in forever! :-D Cool. I've missed your commentry.

Ah, what limpid light you cast out across a dark ocean of meaning, diamond points and shimmering ovals catching and flashing back to the eye from curved facets of thick sea-glass, gleaming deep and clear between the ocean foam floating like luminous cumulous clouds, as cirrus sprays play out across the velvet black star-pierced backdrop.

You're like a lighthouse of some kind. A blue canary in the outlet by the lightswitch as it were.

But in any case, yeah, I'd agree they're nothing alike. "Big difference" was perhaps understating the case.
