Ukulele Pt.2! "Awwww, CUTE"

This post is Part 2 of 2. There was also a Part 1.
Pics by popular demand! Here is my new Ukulele being mentored by my best guitar, my big black Fender:

Big N little

Here they are snuggling upon some comforters and a jacket I threw down, to give them a comfy cushion upon which to pose:

That brought tears to my eyes, truly. It's like when a dog adopts a kitten.

It really is! You should have seen me in the music store. I made an audible "Awwwww!!" noise when I saw that little dude.

It's like they were made for each other.

I don't often imbue inanimate objects with personalities, but I make an exception for stringed instruments. And some cars.

And certain beers.

Is this some kind of stringed instrument porn? Is your guitar a ukephile???

Naw, guitars aren't like that. Their motives are pure as their chiming chords!

It's more like when a big ol' dog is snuggling with a little kitten and everybody is all "Awwwwww...!"

Wonderful to see your new addition Joe, I'm sure it won't be long 'til you are making it sing.

And once you've mastered it, you can always try

(yes, that's my hand, but no, alas, not my harp, it was at a place where I was staying)

Harps are totally rock, exhibit A

Enjoy the uke....

So how do you PLAY a uke? Does it use banjo chords, or bastardized guitar chords or what? Inquiring minds need to know.

The strings are tuned to G, C, E and A and the chords are all different. The Pt.1 post has a link to the site I've been using, to figure out the fingering for each.

So far all's I know is F, Bb, C and Am, but that's all I need to know so far!

It's so weird looking at a song with "F" written in over a section, and your fingers have to do something completely non-F instead.

It's F'ing weird.

Hey, how come you know a ukulele? Often the ones who know that instrument have some affinity for Carribean or other islander cultures (I know it, because I am originally from the Indonesian island of Java)

Well, I grew up on an island!

Brigantine, NJ.

But I'm only just getting to know a ukulele!

@Mel: Harps are way too hard core for me! Unless it was one of those smaller hand-held easy-strummin' jobs.

"F" is actually my favourite guitar chord. When I was a kid I celebrated for a week when I mastered it. That's a hard chord for little hands. In fact, if I'm one day arthritic in the finger joints, "F" is going to get a stern letter from me. :)

Mine's F#!

I'm serious. I work that chord into songs it has no business being in.

I have an F# harmonica.

I like it too. And the minor version too.

Ooooo. I don't like that one, so much.

I don't know why. I think I need to put it into a few songs just to get over it.
