Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show: "Sylvia's Mother"

Recorded at Shel Silverstein's houseboat, Sausalito, California, 1972. That's Shel playing harmonica (and clapping at the end!).

Man. How much pain can one man's voice hold?

He just lifts up that pain with that voice of his, and he just...holds it. He won't ever let it go now.

Please Mrs. Avery, I...just got to talk to her.

OK I came over here right now to call you a freak to prove my point and what do I see? A DR. HOOK ENTRY! Because I've been listening to them the past couple of weeks! Really. Particularly "Years from Now" but "Sylvia's Mother" also. You're freaking me out, freak!

Oh also, you how I said a while ago I was missing my guitar? Guess what I got for Christmas? A sweet Fender acoustic/electric geetar. I stroke it lovingly every day. Well I play it too...

GREAT news! Strum that bad boy. Chords! Play chords - screw notes! All deedly doodly noodley. Chords is where it's the ats.

Now I've got Doc Hook's "Freakin' at the Freakers' Ball" in my head. SWEET!
