Thought of the Day: Decent and Pure

You know what? I decided I don't believe in sarcasm.

Whatever those people think they're getting at, I have no idea but I'm not buying it. What, "I'll say something but I won't mean it"? Hey, there's an easier word than that, without all the sarca's and asm's in it - it's called you're a liar.

You don't lie with your words, do you? Then don't lie with your feelings!

"Sarcasm," jeez. As if.

You may not believe in sarcasm, but it believes in you.

Ha! Reminds me of "The Office," when Kelly Kapoor says Daryl is the most complicated man she knows. He says exactly what's on his mind. "I mean, who says exactly what they're thinking? What kind of game is that?"
I might watch too much TV.

@Sean - you're scaring me, because now I'm picturing sarcasm as a sentient, self-aware meme.

@Sarah P - Wow, that's an old episode - at least I think it is, because I think I saw it! I haven't been watching tv in a while (apart from football of course). Man, I used to love that show!

But if you don't believe in sarcasm the sarcasm fairy won't leave you any presents.

I find sarcasm boring and tiring, and I really don't know why anyone employs it, ever, unless they're imitating someone else, perhaps. Maybe if you know the other person in an argument is never going to understand the truth, and you're sort of just commenting to yourself.

There's a kind of sarcastic tone in a lot of supposed "humor" or comedy that just doesn't reach me either. I really don't understand what the point is. It takes time enough to be genuine, why waste time being the opposite just so you can have some laugh or eye roll?

@tattytiara - I don't want her presents! What good's a present if the sentiment's not genuine?

@blue - I look at sarcasm like satire: it's not a get-out-of-"I'm-not-funny-I-just-think-I-am"-free card. Too many people love to think that just because they're not funny, it means the other person didn't "get it."

But of course: few things are more subjective than humor! Just because I don't think someone's funny doesn't mean anything. Maybe I just don't particularly care for fart jokes - I mean, that's my problem!
