Thought of the Day: Worth Fighting For

I just had an epiphany of sorts, when I realized in my whole life, I have never argued for anything more passionately than for words.

I quite literally believe that words are our most valuable possessions. They hold almost all of our meaning.

Yes, I agree. I've never been 100% comfortable with the expression "talk is cheap". I guess it refers to people who can talk the talk but can't walk the walk, and I get that, but I don't necessarily think talk is cheap. Words are the most precious tool we possess. Particularly our own word. If a friend neglects to pay me back $10, well, I can shrug it off. If a person goes back on their word, well, I'm going to have serious issues with that.

And I will want my ten bucks back as well!

I would only go back on my word if it were a situation where I was dangling a dude off a cliff, and I had told him I was going to kill him last, and I let him go, and then I was like "oh shit I forgot."

See, but you have to make allowances for that Mel! What if the person forgot?

Sometimes talk is cheap not because it's like "oh, you can't back that up," but because of, "oh, whoops! Sorry! I forgot."

True!. If you are dangling me off a cliff and go back on your word because of a lapse in memory, and I plummet to my death, well, that's cool. We're cool. :-D

Mel, no way! I would never say I was going to kill you last! No way.

That's not how I see you, Mel.

No way!
