Some Say Sanity

Some say "Insanity is the only sane response to an insane world."

I don't. I say "Sanity is the only sane response to an insane world."

Sanity cuts you straight right through that world: sane or insane.

Let the world be as it is.

You be what you are.

I've always liked the saying that, "Sanity is the extent to which others share your reality".

k.

Ahaha! But that's an odd way to lay the emphasis, though. Isn't it?

Now if we flip it, I might have to agree that "Sanity is the extent to which you share the reality of others."

Hm! And now I want to recast the post into that sort of formulation. Hm.

Okay, the post is less about agreement with the world, and more about one's response to the challenge the world presents. So the post's stance might be put: "Sanity is the extent to which you can respond reasonably, despite the collective unreason of the world."

In terms of agreement with the world, we may have to admit that the whole world taken together could never be expected to behave as if it were sane or rational. A sane, rational individual is after all only one mind! It's hard enough for one mind sometimes, to be internally consistent and to negotiate an appropriate interface with another mind. For the world as a whole - considered in those terms, the world becomes the most extreme case of dissociative identity disorder on record!

Putting it mildly.

Luckily, even though the world as a whole is not a rational or reasonable actor for us to interface with, reason gives its possessor a huge survival advantage!

??? HOW SO? Please elaborate!

"Outsane." To me, this evokes...wow. I am cusping it, I'm gleaming around its edges, I can't...I can't quite.

Do elaborate on that, please will you TimT!
