Brosnan simply is Bond, to me. Because of the actor’s second wife, and the depth of ultimate futility Brosnan brings to his devil-may-care truesilver portrayal of Double-Oh-SHIIIIITE! IT’S JAMES!
Connery was iconic in paving the way, no doubt, yet he bowed out for what could have been his piece-of-resistance: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
My two favorite Bonds in the Broccoli series of originals (from Dr. No to Diamonds Are Forever, the first of the Moore Bonds except…Connery’s back for a penultimate laugh at the franchise!!? OH, BOND) are and shall always be: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the single best filmed Bond yet, and From Russia With Love.
These are really the only two Bonds I can think of where James engages in anything really resembling real-world espionage. Or even counter-espionage (his ostensible forte).
