Weird, I tell you.
So the menu tells you: Hot Pastrami. New York Delicatessen Style.
Well, okay.
"Man, I haven't had one of those in years!" But then come the questions.
What kind of bread do I want it on?
What kind of cheese?
Do I want mayonnaise?
Mustard?
Russian dressing?
To my look of increasing bewilderment, she helpfully supplies -
("it's the same as thousand island")
Well OK. Rye, swiss, mustard then? Thanks! Technically I'm even cheating on the swiss - that can't possibly be kosher!
It turns out she might have had a point with the Russian dressing, though. Apparently, some - even in NY delicatessens - do order it that way. But come on. Russian dressing is not the same as thousand island!
